I’m 44 years old & I’m a former student. I think Natchaug School is amazing. I was transferred there in 2nd grade when they changed the school zones & I will tell you my 3rd grade Teacher (Mrs. Winters) (RIP) changed my life. I also had another teacher there who was a special ED teacher (I’m dyslexic & have a learning disability) Ms. Duckstien (Not sure if I’m spelling her name right BUT I had NEVER had 2 teachers believe in me like they did. When I was in 5Th grade I had the teacher Joe Penny & he was awful to me, he used to put the kids in 3 groups & I was always in group 3 & he would say group # 1 will go far in life, then he would say group # 2 could go either way in life & then he would say group # 3 will amount to nothing and that was the group I was always in & he is the worst teacher that I had ever had. I would go home crying everyday because I went from having 2 amazing teachers to this teacher who was so cruel to me for no reason & He told my mom & dad I was doing nothing but taking up oxygen so anyway there was a school play & it was a musical it was “Johnny Appleseed” & when everyone heard me sing (Mrs. Winters) & (Ms. Duckstien) they insisted that I get the lead & 5Th grade Joe Penny fought for me not to have the lead because he said “I was too stupid” to have lead he said I’d never learn or remember all the lines or songs & in the end (Mrs. Winters) & (Ms. Duckstien) won the fight & I got the lead & we did 5 performances & I killed it all 5 shows so just because someone is (dyslexic or had a learning disability) don’t discount them because then when I went to Windham high I continued doing musicals. But truly being Transferred to Natchaug School was life changing for me & having end (Mrs. Winters) & (Ms. Duckstien) as my teachers changed my life.
It's a really nice school but swearing and fights happen every where and it isn't safe for children. I got in over 5 fist fights when I was there and teachers don't do anything about it they just watch from a distance and say they didn't see anything. There are some very nice teachers and a lot of really bad teachers. And the mascot aid soooooooo creepy.
